User Onboarding
Guided onboarding experience that helps new users discover value within minutes of their first login.
Overview
The onboarding system provides guided flows that help new users understand Knowledge Tree's capabilities and get their first infrastructure discovery running quickly. Onboarding adapts to the user's role, permissions, and goals.
Onboarding flows
Different onboarding flows are available based on user context:

Wizard steps
The operator quickstart wizard guides users through:
- Welcome -- overview of Knowledge Tree and what they'll accomplish
- Connect provider -- guided setup for AWS, Azure, or GCP credentials
- Configure scope -- select which resources to discover (region, tags, resource types)
- Run discovery -- execute the first discovery scan with progress indicators
- Explore results -- interactive tour of the discovered resources, graph, and changes
- Set up integrations -- optional: connect Slack, Confluence, or PagerDuty
- Next steps -- suggested actions based on what was discovered
Progress persistence
Users can save their progress in the onboarding wizard and return later. Completed steps are marked and remembered across sessions.
Sample data
For users who want to explore Knowledge Tree without connecting a real provider, the platform includes sample datasets:
- Sample AWS environment -- pre-built dataset with EC2, RDS, S3, and networking resources
- Sample Kubernetes cluster -- pods, services, deployments, and ingress resources
- Sample multi-cloud -- resources across AWS, Azure, and GCP with cross-cloud dependencies
- Sample documentation -- pre-generated docs so users can see the output format immediately
Sample data is loaded with a single click and can be reset at any time, making it safe for training and demonstration purposes.
Training resources
The onboarding system includes built-in training resources:
- Interactive tooltips -- context-sensitive help for each section of the UI
- Video walkthroughs -- short (1-3 minute) video guides for key workflows
- Keyboard shortcuts -- discoverable shortcut guide for power users
- Documentation links -- contextual links to the relevant documentation pages
